About heart bypass surgery (CABG)

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is an open-heart operation. The surgeon uses a blood vessel from elsewhere in the body to carry blood around a blocked heart artery.

It can be done on-pump, where a heart-lung machine takes over while the heart is stopped, or off-pump, on the beating heart. Both are established methods. Which suits you depends on your heart, your other health conditions and the surgeon's judgement, so it is decided after the surgeon sees your reports.

Heart bypass surgery price in Bangladesh depends on the hospital and the type of operation. At SHIP International Hospital both packages are 10 days with everything included, paid to SHIP: ৳3,60,000 for Off Pump or ৳4,10,000 for On Pump, plus ৳10,000 for a 4-bag blood transfusion (৳3,70,000 or ৳4,20,000 in total).

What can change the bill

  • Extra charges apply to some cases: high risk (heart pumping below 30%, or a serious other illness) ৳50,000, a repeat bypass ৳1,00,000, emergency surgery (the surgeon's fee × 1.5), a child under 3 years ৳30,000 (under 1 year ৳50,000), a balloon pump if needed ৳1,00,000.
  • Bypass together with a valve replacement or a hole repair is a separate, higher package. SHIP confirms it after seeing your reports.

What to bring to SHIP

  • Your latest prescription
  • Your angiogram report and films, if you have them
  • Echo, ECG and recent blood test reports
  • A list of the medicines you take, and any allergies
  • A photo ID and your Shastho booking ID

You send your prescription and reports on Shastho after you pay. Bring the originals to SHIP.

Request fee and refunds

  • The ৳200 request fee is Shastho's fee for taking your request to SHIP and following it up. It is not deducted from the hospital's package price.
  • If we haven't come back with your appointment within 5 working days, we refund the full ৳200.
  • The package price is paid to SHIP at the hospital, not to Shastho. SHIP sets it and can change it.
  • SHIP's surgeon decides after seeing your reports whether the operation is right for you, and which package.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of heart bypass surgery in Bangladesh?
At SHIP International Hospital in Dhaka the cost is a package: ৳3,60,000 for CABG Off Pump or ৳4,10,000 for CABG On Pump, each for a 10-day stay with everything included. A blood transfusion of 4 bags (৳10,000) is added, so ৳3,70,000 or ৳4,20,000 in total. Extra charges apply to some cases, listed above. You pay Shastho only the ৳200 request fee now; the package is paid to SHIP.
What is the difference between on-pump and off-pump bypass?
In on-pump surgery a heart-lung machine does the work of the heart while the surgeon operates on a still heart. In off-pump surgery the surgeon operates on the beating heart. Studies show mixed results, and the right choice depends on your heart and other health conditions, so the surgeon decides after seeing your reports.

It is Shastho's request fee. It takes your request and reports to SHIP and follows up on your appointment. It is not part of SHIP's package price.
When do I get my appointment?
SHIP's team looks at your reports and we call you to confirm. If we haven't come back with an appointment within 5 working days, you get the full ৳200 back.
Which documents do I need to send?
Your latest prescription and your heart reports (angiogram, echo, ECG and blood tests). Send them from your phone after you pay. The surgeon cannot plan without them.
